AIEE, AFMC MBBS exams timings reschedule

With exam dates of both AIEEE and AFMC MBBS scheduled for the same date on May 1 across thecountry, the respective boards conducting them have decided tohold the tests at separate timings on that day, givingreprieve to candidates appearing for both.

While AIEEE is conducted by CBSE, AFMC entrance test isconducted by Armed Forces Medical Services.

According to a CBSE statement, both have mutually agreedthat AIEEE would be conducted on May 1 from 9.30 am to 12.30pm and AFMC MBBS on the same day from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm.

If a candidate is alloted an examination centre for AIEEEand AFMC at different cities, CBSE will consider to change thecentre of such candidates where AFMC examination centre hasbeen allotted, the statement said.

This is subject to availability of seats and fixationof AIEEE examination centre in that city on production of AFMCentrance examination card.

However, this would be at the sole discretion of CBSE,the statement added.

AIEEE entrance exam date clashing with AFMC exam date, students confused

Thousands of students across the country appearing in the All-India engineering entrance examination-2011 and Armed Forces Medical College entrance examination-2011 would certainly miss one. The reason being the clash of dates of the two examinations which are scheduled to be held on May 1. While the AIEEE will be conducted between 9.30 am and 12.30 pm, AFMC will begin from 9.30 am to end at 11.30 am.

The candidates are a worried lot. A student, Manoj Kumar said: "I have not been able to concentrate on either of them. Every year, the AIEEE was conducted during the last week of April. The sudden change is giving students, who wish to appear in both the examinations, a tough time. I hope that the authorities listen to us and come up with some solution." Manoj passed his intermediate (CBSE) last year having both mathematics and biology as his subjects. He, therefore, wants to play safe and applied for both engineering and medical examinations.

Even the parents have been equally worried for their wards. "It's a question of future of the students. My child has been depressed over quite some time pondering as to what he should do. I request the higher authorities to look into the matter and help the students,'' said Subedar Major TR Singh, father of Manoj.

Terming it as `lack of coordination' among the examining bodies, owner of a coaching institute imparting engineering and medical education, Aditya Kumar said: "For the first time, the AIEEE will be conducted partially online. It's due to the shift in the mode of examinations that the dates have been changed. The dates for AFMC have already been fixed while AIEEE is still in a position to make changes. I think the AIEEE authorities should discuss it and take a stand so that the rights of thousands of students across the country are not curtailed."

An approximate figure of those suffering due to the clash of dates is more than 3,500 in Lucknow alone. The experts say that the students have been disturbed.

Ashish Taneja, who runs a medical coaching institute, said: "A similar problem had occurred earlier too and I remember that when students and parents raised their voice, one of the examining bodies changed the timings. The exam happened in two different shift though on the same date which gave relief to the students. I think this can be done."

When contacted, CBSE chairman Vineet Joshi said: "We are aware of the problem and requested AFMC to consider and shift the date so that students are able to appear in both the examinations. Over 12 lakh candidates will be appearing for the AIEEE and it's tough for us to delay the exams. We hope for a change."
