Cut-offs Raise By IIMs, Admission Gone tough

Securing admission into the most prestigious b-schools in the country, the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM), had been no easy feat before, the cut off percentiles that were announced by the IIMs on Wednesday are higher as compared to previous years.

IIM-Ahmedabad has announced that around 540 students who have an overall percentile that is higher than 99 and higher than 94 in each individual section would be called for personal interviews.

IIM-Lucknow, which had been one of the organizing institutes for the Common AdmissionTest (CAT)-2010 has increased the weightage allotted to the candidates' CAT scores. Instead of the regular 30% weightage given to CAT scores, the weightage allotted now would be 37.5% for the next batch. The institute has also increased its fee from Rs. 8 lakh to Rs. 12 lakh.

Many IIMs are now working on admitting more women and non-engineeringstudents as it would increase the diversity in the institute. Also, directors of IIMs that have been recently established will be meeting next week to discuss holding joint personal interviews and group discussions.
