Further investigations into the fake institute scam that had been unearthed at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) - Kharagpur have revealed evidence that links four more professors at the IIT with the operation of the fake institute that was being run by senior IIT professor Amit Kumar Ghosh.
The Human Resource Development Ministry had been asked by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) to probe the alleged irregularities in the appointment of the IIT-Kharagpur registrar T.K. Ghoshal.
Two former IIT-Kharagpur directors have also been named by Ghosh in the scam. However, the former directors have both denied the allegations.
The fresh evidence that has been found by the police includes a photograph fro ma convocation ceremony of the fake institute that showed five IIT-Kharagpur professors seated next to Ghosh. These include Pallab Kumar Chattopadhyaya, professor of agriculture and food engineering and Punyabrata Duta Gupta, professor of electrical engineering.
Students who had been duped by enrolling at the fake institute have written to the Human Resource Development Minister Kapil Sibal, asking him to take strict action against everyone involved in the scam.
