Though it might appear that there is too much project work, including activities for the class 9 and 10 students in the newly introduced Complete and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE), the aim is to make students do it as a group activity during class hours and not as homework, chairman and secretary of CBSE, Vineeth Joshi has said.
Interacting with parents at the Sahodaya Schools Complex in Kochi on Sunday, he said that the aim of the CCE was the overall development of the personality of the students, unlike an academiccentred performance. "When one goes to study in IIT or institutions like that, a student has to learn to interact, work in groups and do a lot of activities that are not essentially scholastic, but mostly coscholastic.''
''Proficiency test is an optional one which can be taken by the student if he/she wants to assess his/her performance against students in other schools across the country. This is optional and will be conducted in the schools in May. But the details of the Student Global Aptitude Test (SGAI) will be made clear by December," he said.
Clarifying doubts, he said those students who would be moving out of theCBSE to other Boards could take the Board examination while it would be better for the others to take the school examination if they would be continuing with the CBSE.
In her presentation, Sadhana Parasher, head, Innovation and Research, CBSE, said the CBSE website contained comprehensive details on the CCE, Formative Assessment and Summative Assessment.
She promised that the assessment of a student's character or personality would not be negative and it would be written in consultation with the student.
"This is a system we had introduced for the primary classes much earlier, way back in 2000, but it was only in 2004 that many schools started following it. It is only when we introduced the system in the senior classes that schools started implementing it across the classes," she said.(Express Buzz)
